I can’t find a gooseberry in the USA,
Where did this humble fruit go?
Gooseberry pies, gooseberry tarts,
Served with custard or cream,
Will I ever taste the gooseberry again?
or will I just have to dream?

I haven’t seen them in a long time. They used to be in season at the same time as mackerel came close to shore. The fish with a gooseberry sauce is one of the nicest combinations possible. Conor
