Lake Garda – Wish I were there!

DSC03185

I still dream of retiring to Italy, but would one home be enough. Ravello and the Amalfi Coast is the place I think of most, but Lake Garda and its beautiful scattering of towns, is always in my heart!

Memories of Campania

I could wander those beautiful streets forever.

Anacapri – Italy

Dreaming of Italy again! It’s almost a year until my next visit, but its planned. Naples for a couple of days before taking the ferry to Capri and staying in a beautiful B&B in Anacapri. I’m very excited! After Capri we’re staying in a villa in Scala on the Amalfi Coast. Could life get much better?

Maybe! There’s a small chance I may be spending a week in Verona in November. If I still lived in England, I’d spend every weekend in italy, but alas its a long flight from Denver.

Cappuccino and the Rooftops of Rome!

DSC02995Thou shalt only drink cappuccino or any milky form of coffee in the morning, and never after a meal.

The first time I tasted Cappuccino was in the early seventies. My mum and crazy aunt took me to Italy, Rimini to be precise. It was one of those package tours that were so popular in England back then. We stayed in the Hotel President, by Piazza Tripoli and just a couple of blocks from the beach. I’d dreamed of visiting Italy for as long as I can remember. Not sure why, but it was (and still is an obsession) of mine.

I’m at home in italy, it soothes my soul.

Now, even though I live in the US, I return as often as possible and have travelled from north to south. I have favorite cities and towns of course. Breakfast at Hotel Vittorio on the banks of Lake Garda is wonderful. An ice-cold glass of champagne overlooking the Amalfi Coast in the Beautiful Hotel Villa Maria is heavenly. Tasting wine at one of the many Tuscan Vineyards with good friends is amazing.

However, one of the most exciting, exhilarating places to drink Cappuccino, is on the rooftop of the beautiful Marriott Hotel ‘Grand Flora’ at the top of Via Veneto in Rome! One cup is not enough as you sit and anticipate the day ahead. I never tire of it and I never will.

Hooked on Sunsets – Hotel Villa Maria – Ravello

The Elegant dining room at the beautiful Hotel Villa Maria. Gorgeous for breakfast, but breathtaking at sunset. Can’t get over Ravello! Didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to return.

Hooked on Sunsets – Ravello – Amalfi Coast

This is the beautiful view from our hotel in Ravello. The Hotel Villa Maria was the most beautiful, perfect place I’ve ever stayed and you will see more of it in later posts. It may have been the deciding factor on my house purchase in italy.

Hooked on Sunsets – Ravello – Amalfi Coast

Sunset on the Amalfi Coast

I love to travel and have been to many places, but nowhere captured my heart like Ravello on the gorgeous Amalfi Coast. I think a little bit of me is still there. I’d better go back and get it! This is the view from the beautiful Villa Maria, which is the friendliest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Also the most beautiful!

Amalfi by foot

I don’t think I’d ever tire of this view if I lived here. We walked from Ravello to Amafi today. The steps were pretty uneven in places so you hat to watch your footing. It was very hot, around 36 degrees, but worth it. The gelato at the bottom was delicious.

Leaving Positano

DSC03698

I just got to visit Positano for one day on this trip. I’ll be back though. The five-year plan is to buy a second home somewhere in the area. Can’t wait. My heart has always belonged to Italy and now I’m taking it home.

Some things are way to beautiful to be perfectly captured by camera no matter how hard you try, but I can still keep trying!
