Many Moons Ago

IMG_0013

Many moons ago (seems like yesterday), my daughter was eight years old, and we took her to Italy for the very first time. Happy memories from Lake Garda. I sat down to write this blog and went to put my glasses on, something was in the way, I was already wearing a pair!!! Yup many moons ago I was young, now I’m old and forgetful.
The one thing I never forget is my love of Italy and my love of writing. I made my Italian dream come true. We bought a house in Abruzzo. Retirement looks good to me now.
What about writing? Ten years ago I began to put my stories (I have a head full of them) onto Amazon. My first published book, Dead of July, has started selling again, so I decided it was a good time to publish my collection of stories. I re-read and edited them and here they are in a cute little bundle and available to purchase in the next couple of days. Many moons ago I had a dream, and now I’m making it come true.

Living the Dream

A year ago we were on our way back from an Italian vacation with thoughts of buying a very expensive house on the Amalfi Coast. A beautiful tumble-down house that needed a lot of work. It was a great dream, but would have made us broke. However, it made us determined to find a house we could afford. I searched long and hard and found Abruzzo. I was captivated by its beauty, its reasonable property prices (and its lack of tourism). So captivated that by the end of August 2017 I was on my way back to Italy to find my retirement home.

I remember the first time I walked through this door into the kitchen area of the Old Olive Mill in Colledimezzo. Without even seeing the rest of the house I knew it was the one! My daughter was with me and she felt the same.

Now, less than a year later, this house is ours. We’ve been back a couple of times, but not able to stay there because there was work to be done. A kitchen to build, a boiler and radiators to put in, and of course furniture to buy, but now its ready. When we fly out in October, we can make it our home.

Having a dream is great, but living that dream is much, much better!

2017 – The Incredible Journey

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_399e

Christmas is almost here and the year almost over. What an incredible year it’s been. I spent last Christmas in England with friends and family. Took a trip down memory lane. The New Years Eve fireworks in London were amazing.

July took me to Naples, Capri and the Amalfi coast. My yearning for a better, slower life in Italy became overwhelming.

August found me in Abruzzo looking at homes and discovering a beautiful area I’d never visited before. The Chieti province of Abruzzo is bursting with beautiful scenery in its perfect position between the mountains and the Adriatic. Sitting on a hilltop is Colledimezzo, my second home.

It’s a long time since I was this excited about anything. My whole family shares that excitement. Now from afar, I’m conducting an orchestra of contractors who are putting the final touches to our new family home. With the help of Monia, our realtor, we’re turning a lifetime of dreams into a future reality.

It may be a while before I retire, but I’m looking forward to it now. The year of 2017  turned out to be an incredible journey.

Happy New Year to everyone. Make your dreams come true!

Speeding up the Tale!

The older I get, the more urgent everything becomes. My passion (as well as travelling), is writing. The first book I published was a short story called ‘Girl on the Beach’. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad. The genre was a little mixed, but I had a lot to learn….I still have a lot to learn, but I’m getting there.

A couple of months ago I decided to re-write ‘Girl On The Beach’ and then re-launch it as a Young Adult book. Since making this decision, I’ve had visitors from England, a wedding and a very busy summer. In two days I’m attending a fiction writers conference and would love to share my book with some of the attendees, who knows, I may even get discovered……or maybe not.

I have ten pages to re-write! I can do it. Yes this blog is all about Travel Tales and Mishaps…..I’m simply speeding up the tale. Keep checking in, who knows, I may be a success story. I’d love you to join the celebration.

Dead of July, my first full length novel, is available on amazon. Check it out, read the reviews, support a hardworking old bird who is trying to live her dreams.

I think I found Christmas!

It’s been a struggle this year! I worked so hard to finish my novel, but I got it done. Then I was very sick.  There was drama at work. The combination of all of these thing sapped my energy and emotion and I had nothing left.

I put up my Christmas tree, wrapped the Christmas gifts, wrote Christmas cards, but it was mechanical. I wasn’t doing anything from the heart. I couldn’t find my Christmas Spirit and it saddened me because I love Christmas. I love giving, getting together with family, having parties and of course I love celebrating the birthday of Jesus Christ.

This year I felt numb. Was I too old? What was wrong with me? I was scared.

I met an old friend tonight, we had dinner together and then, all of a sudden, everything fell into place. Hallelujah, I had found Christmas at last.

I LOVE ITALY

What made me thing of that? It’s a thought I have every day. It’s not just, “I can’t wait for my next vacation in Italy”. It is a real yearning and sense of belonging and I can’t get it out of my head. It’s not a passing phase, but a life long yearning, and as I get older, it becomes stronger.

I work full-time in a Corporate Legal dept, and in my spare time I write.

If only I had a small villa in Tuscany! What a wonderful inspirational place that would be. Think of the stories I could write from there. If only…..Never mind “If only” I am going to make it happen.

My new novel ‘Dead of July’ is available at amzn.to/1bNFS6W . Who knows, maybe I will write the sequel in Tuscany!

Insipiration from Nature

How can I not be inspired when I wake up every morning and see this majestic sunrise. Colorado and the Rocky Mountains in all of their beauty would inspire the most unimaginative souls.

My dream has always been to write, and Colorado is helping me to live my dream.

Dead of July (Small)

My surroundings inspire me to write. Since I was thirteen, I have put my thoughts, dreams and ambitions on paper. More stories have been tossed aside than I care to mention, simply because I never had the courage or confidence to show them to anyone. Now I am in my mid fifties and my stories are demanding to be heard, so after a couple of short stories (a practice run to test the water), I am ready to release my first novel. ‘Dead of July’. I am not afraid anymore. Check out the preview below. My novel will be released in July. I am extremely excited and hope it brings excitement to the life of anyone who reads it. Check out the preview below.
