The Giving Season

No, I’m not talking about Christmas, I’m talking about the fruit bearing season in Abruzzo. Our very good friend Nino brought us this wonderful collection today. We have figs, large tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, peppers, and then his wonderful wife baked biscotti…I don’t think I’ll ever lose weight here.

When I walk I see trees bursting with fruit and the wonderful scent of jam making and baking wafts from open windows as I pass by.

It’s only going to get better as we move into Autumn.

Olives and Friends

Have you ever seen Olive Oil look this good? I certainly haven’t! This olive oil was freshly pressed by our friends Nino and Vittoria and given to me as a gift this evening.
“This is not for cooking. It is to enjoy with a little salt and crusty bread.”
My husband could live on bread and olive oil, and I’m sure this will be the best he’s ever tasted. I’ll let you know.
I’ve lived in Colledimezzo for almost two months and I never cease to be amazed by the kindness and generosity of my neighbors. In the short time we’ve been here we’ve made so many friends. Perfect place to live, perfect place to retire. I miss my daughter of course, can’t wait until she’s able to visit.
