The Bumpy Road!

eBook Cover

When I started writing I knew fame wouldn’t come overnight. It may NEVER come but, I do love writing. I self published a couple of short stories back when eBooks first became popular. Over fifty thousand were down loaded and I was overwhelmed with the reviews, both good and bad. It was a great learning experience.

I took my next book a lot more seriously and worked with good folks to perfect it. Perfecting means working with a copy editor, content editor, publisher and proof reader as well as finding someone to make it look good as an eBook.

This book was Dead of July. It got some great reviews. Not many authors are lucky enough to have a best-selling first book and I was no different, but I learned from it and haven’t given up.

Ghosts on the Sand is my next venture, and the Content Editor I’m working with on this book is phenomenal. She’s giving me a confidence I never knew I had. Ghosts on the Sand will be published later this year in a collection of short, chilling tales. Maybe, just maybe, this will be the book that gets me noticed.

It’s a bumpy road, but I’m a tough old bird!

Aging the Write Way

Growing old

As I went to put the carton of milk in the oven this morning, and the croissants in the fridge to warm, I thought about my mum and laughed. Yes, I’ve become her. I used to make fun of her all of the time for doing these things. When I was in my teens and twenties, I thought I’d be young forever. Little did I know how quickly those years would pass. Old age creeps up quickly. Everyone seems to be younger than me now. I’m not quite sixty yet, but very close.

Nothing can slow down aging, its part of life, but life doesn’t have to slow down because of it. I’ve been writing since I was eleven or twelve. My head is full of stories.  Every single day is an adventure to me. The older I get, the more important, its become to share my adventures. Some will make you laugh, others, well you’ll think I’m crazy. There’s one thing for sure, I’m not going to keep them locked in my brain until I die, I’m aging the write way!

Dead of July is the my first novel. I published it 2013. It took a couple of years to write, and another year to edit and perfect. Give it a try. Its based on real events that happened to me when I was in my early twenties.

Traveling Along the Write Path!

Saturday morning means two cups of coffee, a smoothie and a bottle of San Pellegrino before I even think of taking a shower. Saturday means feeding the washing machine and tumble drier constantly, but Saturday also means writing. Its hard write while working full-time, but I’m on the right, or should I say the write path!

I’ve only managed to publish one novel, Dead of July , of which I’m very proud. It’s available on Amazon for $0.99. I’m also re-editing my first two short stories, which will be published towards the end of the year. They’re all fun reads, and great practice for when I retire and write full-time. Add a little crazy to your life and read “Dead of July”. I think you’ll enjoy it. Keep track of this crazy writer, she’ll be famous one day!

Retire and Write!

DSC03392As I sip my cappuccino and contemplate my other blog…the scary one, I chuckle to myself.

My first thought when I woke up this morning was “I have so much to do, housework, cooking, baking, bills to pay…how am I going to find time to blog and to edit my current book?”

I lay in bed for a little while wallowing in self-pity and then I smiled.

The sun is beaming through the skylight in my bedroom and peeping between the blinds. I love my house, so housework isn’t a bad thing. Cooking and baking are my passion so why am I stressing about something I enjoy. There is more than enough time in the day to blog, I’m doing it now. I can edit my book this evening.

This beautiful sunny day stretches out ahead of me, its mine to make it what I will. I may even find time to go for a walk.

And now I’ve readjusted my attitude I’ll sit and write the next installment of my ghost story on Stop Talking to Me because I’m in my sunset years now and one day I’m going to retire to Italy and write!

The Occasional Writer!

A retirement to look forward to.

A retirement to look forward to.

I’ve been back at work for two weeks now. At last things are falling into place. I can actually stay awake long enough to be productive in the evening! Finally my occasional writing is happening more often. When I retire (and that’s a long way off) I’ll turn my hobby into a retirement career. My days will be filled with writing and travel….and of course a glass of wine in the late afternoon. My first novel “Dead of July” is currently sitting on Amazon. When it was first published I sold a lot of copies, not enough to make a profit, but enough to encourage me to keep writing. I got some great reviews too. Go check it out, maybe it’s a book you’ll enjoy. It’s never going to be on the best seller list, but I enjoyed writing it and everyone I talked to enjoyed reading it.

Because I don’t have time for marketing, I’m going to reduce the price to $0.99 for the foreseeable future. Let me entertain you for less than a dollar. If you take the plunge, please write a review on Amazon for me.

My Journey through the Week. TGISaturday

crazy-computer-womanDid you ever have a week where every day was worse than the one before? I just did.

I started the week tired after a weekend long fiction writers conference. A great conference, but exhausting none the less. Busy time at work with a large deal closing. I’m also remodelling my bathroom, which meant running around in my lunch times, as well as after work to choose and match tile, granite, cabinets etc. I’m not quite as young as I used to be, and it’s catching up with me. Yesterday I could barely get out of bed, but it was Friday, I made it.

At last the weekend is here, all be it crammed full with things that have to get done, but I can do them in MY OWN TIME. Who knows, I may even find time to write.

My work week was a little wild

I made it though to my surprise

The weekends here and I’m alive

For now anyway!

Check out my first novel Dead of July – a German Ghost Story

Maybe I’ll find time today to work on my second one.

Stop Talking to Me

Breakfast of a Champion – My personal Heaven

Lucky to live in Colorado. It’s saturday and I ate my favorite breakfast of honey smoked salmon (smoked locally), with fresh blueberries, washed down with a cup of DazBog French roast coffee, made at home of course. While I enjoyed this perfect breakfast I enjoyed the view from my deck. I think I’ll stay home today.

Flowers and Memories

Minolta DSCMarried to a workaholic makes you remember things for different reasons sometimes. During a long week-end in Santa Fe a few years ago my husband had to work remotely for a couple of hours.  I’d almost forgotten about it until I came across some photos. I had to spend some time on my own. I made good use of it.

I take photographs and write novels and short stories to keep me occupied.

It helps keep the Alzheimer’s at bay.
