Ominous Sky – a day for Soup and Writing!

I took this photo at around 7:30 this morning while drinking my cappuccino. It made me think of soup. Our very favorite soup is Pasta Fagioli. The beans and veggies and garlic are simmering, and already smelling good.
Now what to do while they cook? Write! Many of you may not know I’m a writer, not a great writer, but practice makes perfect, and it’s a hobby I enjoy. I have a couple of self published books, ghost stories, as well as a children’s book, and now I’m working on a book about my move to Italy. It’s a little tearful at times, but also full of laughs. I posted my first snipped of my new project on my other blog https://wordsfrombeyond.wordpress.com/2022/01/20/escaping-trumps-america/

It usually takes me about a year to write a book, but you can check in and share my adventures for free if you like. It was quite the ride.

Walking!

There is one thing I’m really enjoying during retirement, and lockdown, and that is walking. It clears my head. The views around Colledimezzo are spectacular. Yes, I’d love to see the Adriatic again, but good things are worth waiting for, we won’t be restricted to a 30 kilometer radius forever.

Today we had fibre installed. Our internet has been awful for the last few months, but today that changed. Small steps to make my life easier. As a writer and blogger, I’m always doing research, and a slow internet speed was awful.

I’m doing heaps of cooking and baking. I never had time to play and experiment in the kitchen when I was working, but now…there is no holding me back.

Learning Italian is fun too. A little frustrating at times, but a sixty three year old brain takes a little longer to remember new things. (or am I sixty four now?) I’m getting there.

On the downside, it seems like the hierarchy have forgotten about distributing the vaccines to some of the rural areas in the Chieti Province of Abruzzo. Several small communities similar to Colledimezzo have been overlooked. The mayor’s of those communities have written letters to get this fixed. Fingers crossed they’ll remedy the situation.

Meanwhile I plan for the future, and think about my first trip when we’re free again. Abruzzo is beautiful, but I think I’ll run away to Ravello, just for a few days.

Ravello is calling me.

Bundle of Cuteness

I was miserable yesterday. It rained and stormed all day. Oppressive! Made me sad!
I texted my daughter to ask he how her day was going and she responded with a photo…it’s Queen Tess! Made me smile! Also made me remember I’ve been distracted from the Children’s story I’m writing about this bundle of cuteness.

Gloomy Sunday – Aching Bones – Writing

DSC05474

Gloomy Sunday, the sun has hidden,
My bones they ache due the the lawn tractor ridden,
Never thought I’d get old, but alas, I did.

My hobby is writing, and books are released,
I’ll never be rich from them, but break even at least,
I can say I did it, and I did.

Retirement soon, to a life with less stress,
Apprehensive to the change, but excited I confess,
To live to old age, and I did.

Maple Syrup does NOT clean pans!

Yesterday my second book went live on Amazon. Exciting, never thought I’d finish it. I’ve been so busy with work, moving, downsizing, planning etc., etc.
This morning I got up bright and early, made oatmeal, checked emails, and as usual had a million things on my mind. That is when I found myself tipping Maple Syrup in the dirty oatmeal pan that was soaking in the sink.
NO I’M NOT GETTING ALZHEIMER’S and YES I LAUGHED

My new book of short stories is available on Amazon now, please feel free to enjoy this crazy British lady’s ghost stories. Yes I see dead people, not very often, but they do turn up. I think they like me! I hope you enjoy reading about them.

Many Moons Ago

IMG_0013

Many moons ago (seems like yesterday), my daughter was eight years old, and we took her to Italy for the very first time. Happy memories from Lake Garda. I sat down to write this blog and went to put my glasses on, something was in the way, I was already wearing a pair!!! Yup many moons ago I was young, now I’m old and forgetful.
The one thing I never forget is my love of Italy and my love of writing. I made my Italian dream come true. We bought a house in Abruzzo. Retirement looks good to me now.
What about writing? Ten years ago I began to put my stories (I have a head full of them) onto Amazon. My first published book, Dead of July, has started selling again, so I decided it was a good time to publish my collection of stories. I re-read and edited them and here they are in a cute little bundle and available to purchase in the next couple of days. Many moons ago I had a dream, and now I’m making it come true.

Abruzzo – Italy at its best!

ABRUZZO ITALY

Can’t wait to call this place my home.

I’m enjoying a lovely Colorado day. Catching up with my blogs and trying to finish the last short story in my current book, but my mind wanders off the to the dramatic unspoiled beauty of Abruzzo.

The Bumpy Road!

eBook Cover

When I started writing I knew fame wouldn’t come overnight. It may NEVER come but, I do love writing. I self published a couple of short stories back when eBooks first became popular. Over fifty thousand were down loaded and I was overwhelmed with the reviews, both good and bad. It was a great learning experience.

I took my next book a lot more seriously and worked with good folks to perfect it. Perfecting means working with a copy editor, content editor, publisher and proof reader as well as finding someone to make it look good as an eBook.

This book was Dead of July. It got some great reviews. Not many authors are lucky enough to have a best-selling first book and I was no different, but I learned from it and haven’t given up.

Ghosts on the Sand is my next venture, and the Content Editor I’m working with on this book is phenomenal. She’s giving me a confidence I never knew I had. Ghosts on the Sand will be published later this year in a collection of short, chilling tales. Maybe, just maybe, this will be the book that gets me noticed.

It’s a bumpy road, but I’m a tough old bird!

Aging the Write Way

Growing old

As I went to put the carton of milk in the oven this morning, and the croissants in the fridge to warm, I thought about my mum and laughed. Yes, I’ve become her. I used to make fun of her all of the time for doing these things. When I was in my teens and twenties, I thought I’d be young forever. Little did I know how quickly those years would pass. Old age creeps up quickly. Everyone seems to be younger than me now. I’m not quite sixty yet, but very close.

Nothing can slow down aging, its part of life, but life doesn’t have to slow down because of it. I’ve been writing since I was eleven or twelve. My head is full of stories.  Every single day is an adventure to me. The older I get, the more important, its become to share my adventures. Some will make you laugh, others, well you’ll think I’m crazy. There’s one thing for sure, I’m not going to keep them locked in my brain until I die, I’m aging the write way!

Dead of July is the my first novel. I published it 2013. It took a couple of years to write, and another year to edit and perfect. Give it a try. Its based on real events that happened to me when I was in my early twenties.

Traveling Along the Write Path!

Saturday morning means two cups of coffee, a smoothie and a bottle of San Pellegrino before I even think of taking a shower. Saturday means feeding the washing machine and tumble drier constantly, but Saturday also means writing. Its hard write while working full-time, but I’m on the right, or should I say the write path!

I’ve only managed to publish one novel, Dead of July , of which I’m very proud. It’s available on Amazon for $0.99. I’m also re-editing my first two short stories, which will be published towards the end of the year. They’re all fun reads, and great practice for when I retire and write full-time. Add a little crazy to your life and read “Dead of July”. I think you’ll enjoy it. Keep track of this crazy writer, she’ll be famous one day!
